Power of Phenomenon: Using Curiosity to Drive Equitable Instruction

OVERVIEW

As learners, we naturally crave to know more about the world around us. When we connect student learning to real-world phenomena, student interests/experiences, and current events, we can foster authentic engagement in the classroom. In this interactive session, we share practical ways to launch lessons with phenomena, make learning more relevant, and increase student motivation and achievement.

DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES

In this session, participants will:

  • Consider the research related to the significance and best practices for the use of phenomena in the classroom
  • Experience strategies and tools to effectively use phenomena in science instruction
  • Reflect on how to implement best practices with phenomena in your particular context
