Looking to infuse your STAAR review with rigor and fun? Each of these 6-hour sessions models engaging formative assessment activities that address all readiness and some supporting standards. Participants will leave with digital copies of the activities that can be used to check for understanding, not only before the STAAR, but throughout the school year as well.

The Language of Science: Vocabulary Strategies for All Learners

This training is a blend of current research and practical strategies to promote vocabulary acquisition for all learners. During this session, we explore methods to scaffold learning and deeper thinking through intentional vocabulary instruction and support. We will also analyze the ELPS and consider how to best incorporate those standards in a science classroom to the benefit of all learners. Participants will leave with effective strategies that they can utilize immediately to supplement their current instructional practices.

Engaging the Gifted Learner: Differentiating Learning in the Science Classroom

This focused session will deal with differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies to address the needs of GT learners in the science classroom. The training will model strategies that target gifted students in understanding abstract concepts, utilizing critical reasoning skills while promoting interdisciplinary connections to support and develop high ability skills via research-based models.

Exploring Practices for Highly Effective Instruction

These engaging sessions focus on equipping teachers with practices that allow them to establish and maintain a learning environment with high levels of student achievement. We immerse participants in six interrelated, research-based practices that together form a system for effective planning, instruction, and assessment in all classrooms.  

These 6 practices include: student-centered instruction, scaffolding for all, formative assessment, relevancy and engagement, high expectations for all, and classroom management. Each practice can be presented as a standalone day, as part of a series of trainings, or in a custom day with multiple practices selected by the district. 

Differentiated Instruction: Empowering All Learners for Success in Science

This focused session will deal with differentiated curriculum and instructional strategies to address the needs of all learners in the science classroom. Participants will experience a model lesson that incorporates various strategies that empower diverse learners to understand challenging concepts. All attendees will leave with activities that can be easily implemented in their own classrooms.

Speaking of Science: Promoting Academic Conversation in the Science Classroom

How do we empower all students to speak with confidence in our classrooms? Current research is clear on the benefits of getting students talking about the content. It helps our students become better readers and writers, has a significant impact on retention and prepares them for the real world! This interactive, engaging session is full of practical, ready-to-use strategies to promote academic conversation with all students.

In addition to our professional development offerings, we can provide instructional coaching services to districts as well. These services include training, instructional planning, and other resources as needed. We can work with teachers and administrators to analyze data, set goals and improve practices in order to impact student achievement.

Not only do we work with teachers, but we also love to come in and work with students to review them on identified areas of weakness just prior to STAAR. These sessions can be customized to target specific readiness standards as needed.
